Before making changes to your packaging and corresponding data, there are some details you should consider.
Firstly - What is Onpack?
In NPC Rapid, Onpack describes the data that is on your physical packaging such as:
- Nutritional info
- Allergen warnings
- Ingredients
- Country of origin
- Marketing claims
Consider - What is changing about my product?
Some product variations should have a unique identifier. This helps ensure consumers and trading partners receive exactly what they are expecting.
Check if the change means a new GTIN (barcode) should be used. Please use the GTIN Management Standard and the Decision Support Tool to help you decide. Still unsure? Email support@gs1nz.org for advice.
If a new GTIN is needed, submit it as a new entry in Rapid.
Decide - Do I need to update both data and images?
Conflicting information across physical packaging, images and written data is important to address for brand owners and suppliers. Both consumers and retailers are becoming increasingly discerning on this matter.
Research shows that about 75% of online shoppers rely on product photography when deciding to purchase a product. Of those who do complete the purchase, 64% say they will return items because of a mismatch in product information.
Check what images you have on file both with the GS1 Media Library service (these will show in the image tab in Rapid), and also directly with your retailers. These might need updating.
