"Add Variation" Feature in Shared Products

The "Add Variation" function, also known as Trading Partner Dependent (TPD) values, allows you to assign unique values to specific trading partners when needed.
By default, Shared Products item data is the same for all trading partners.
However, certain fields can be enabled to allow variation for specific trading partners.

Fields Available for Variation:

  • Product Code
  • Orderable Unit, Despatch Unit, Invoice Unit (Grouped)

  • Order Quantity Minimum & Multiple (Grouped)
  • Ordering Unit of Measure
  • Publication Date
  • On Shelf Date

Grouped Fields

Fields listed as "grouped" above means that when you add or remove a variation for these fields it will add or remove them as a group rather than individually.

Key Points:

  • The "Add Variation" button appears only for enabled fields and when multiple trading partners are selected for the product.
  • Variations should only be used when a trading partner requires a different value from the default.
  • Where a variation has been entered for a specific trading partner, that trading partner will only receive the specified values for those fields. Not the default data entered on the "All Trading Partners" tab.

How to Add a Variation:

  1. Locate the field where a unique value is needed
    (Example: Ordering Unit of Measure)
  2. Click "Add Variation" and select Trading Partner
  3. A new tab labelled with the trading partner's name will open, showing only the fields requiring variation
  4. Enter the unique value and return to the "All Trading Partners" tab.
    • A Note under the related field will indicate that a variation has been added to that field.
  5. Continue entering data and submit as per usual.

Data Sent to Trading Partners when there is a Variation added:

When a product with data variations is submitted the following will occur:

  • The default trading partners will receive the value entered in the "All Trading Partners" tab.
  • Trading Partners with variations will receive all the default data from the "All Trading Partners" tab (where applicable) and the unique values entered for that specific trading partner.

Editing and Removing a Variation:

  • To change a variation, click into the relevant trading partner tab, update the field and submit.
  • To remove a variation, open the relevant trading partner tab, click the "X" button to delete the field, and submit. This will remove the field from the tab and send the default value from the "All Trading Partners" tab to that specific trading partner.
