The National Product Catalogue [NPC] is a certified data pool of the GS1 Global Data Synchronisation Network (GDSN), a powerful environment for secure and continuous synchronisation of accurate data across the world. These data pools conform to GS1 system standards, confidentiality and integrity of user information, global interoperability, global validation rules, and global search functionality. To maintain its “certified” status, the NPC must follow a standard version release schedule and releases can be expected quarterly.
GS1 Australia operates the NPC on behalf of GS1 New Zealand and has over 2,000 companies and 1,000,000 GTIN records loaded to date by suppliers from both markets. The NPC is a database built and maintained by 1WorldSync a company jointly owned by the member organizations of GS1 Germany and GS1 US.
1WorldSync is currently undertaking ISO 27001 certification on the data pool utilised by both GS1 Australia and New Zealand. 1WorldSync has completed ISO 27001 certification on their US data pool and as such is the only product content network provider with such certification. ISO 27001 specifies the requirements for establishing, implementing, maintaining and continually improving an information security management system within the context of an organization.
1WorldSync is the leading provider of product content solutions, enabling more than 25,000 global companies in over 60 countries to share authentic, trusted content with customers and consumers.
Publishers (i.e. suppliers) have absolute control over who can access their data, for example price data is only ever accessible by the data recipients identified by the price Global Location Number (GLN) used by suppliers on each price record. Each GLN is unique to each data recipient globally.
As a further security intervention, the critical pricing information is opaque on the NPC-Publisher user interface to GS1 staffers, a value can be seen (as required to validate a complete data set) but the value is indecipherable.
At the local GS1 New Zealand level all employees are bound to confidentiality both as part of their employment agreement. In addition, those staff that have access to the NPC have each signed a further more detailed confidentiality agreement.
