Amazon - ISBN and EAN-13 numbers

Acceptability of EAN-13 for Amazon

Sometimes companies supplying Amazon are told that they must use UPC-A, and that EAN-13 is unacceptable.

GS1 New Zealand has confirmed with GS1 US that Amazon can handle EAN-13. Apparently Amazon has difficulty communicating this to the many staff it has dealing with offshore suppliers.

It may be helpful to remind your Amazon contacts that Amazon deals in books that will often have ISBN numbers that have been converted to GTIN-13 and encoded in EAN-13 barcodes.   This demonstrates that Amazon can manage EAN-13.

Confirmation and further advice can be be obtained from Teresa Truscelli at GS1 US
