When might a customer accept a failing barcode?

It is possible that a product with a failing barcode may be accepted if all of the following conditions are met;

  • The barcode has a tick against the relevant scan environment (omni-directional, hand held, automated) on the front page
  • Reported scan rate is 100%
  • Bar height is >60% of the specified height
  • Any magnification (size) failure is slight
  • The barcode has passed on these individual parameters:
  1. Quiet zones
  2. Validity of GTIN
  3. Check digit
  4. Overall ISO grade
  5. General representation

Please note that the decision whether to accept a product with a failing barcode lies with the customer and not with GS1.
